LSM is proud to continue supporting Dublin City Council’s on-street waste compactor scheme, with Phase 2 now extending the initiative to the northside of the city.
Working alongside waste collection partners Panda Ireland and Key Green, LSM’s compactors are helping to provide an innovative alternative to the presentation of plastic waste bags on city streets. The scheme is designed to create cleaner, safer and more attractive streets for residents, businesses and visitors, while supporting Dublin City Council’s wider waste management programme.
Following the successful rollout of Phase 1 on the southside of the city, Dublin City Council has announced the installation of new waste compactor units on Marlborough Place and Loftus Lane. From 11 May 2026, permission to present plastic waste bags on the street for collection will be removed from all 110 streets covered in the Phase 2 area.
The compactors will be available to businesses and residents based in the affected streets, offering a practical and accessible option for those who wish to continue using bagged waste services. Dublin City Council is encouraging businesses and residents in the Phase 2 area to contact their waste collector to discuss the most suitable waste collection option for their needs.
The introduction of Phase 2 builds on the strong results achieved during the initial pilot scheme, which was launched in late 2025 and continues to support the removal of approximately 1,000 plastic bags from 90 southside streets each day.
Dublin City Council has reported that, as a result of Phase 1, illegal dumping has reduced by approximately 20 tonnes per month in the pilot area. The Council also believes the first phase has contributed to improved levels of cleanliness and reduced littering across the city centre, as noted in the most recent IBAL survey.
Speaking at the launch of the two new compactors, Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councillor Ray McAdam, said:
“Celebrating Dublin means respecting Dublin. It means taking pride in our streets, our neighbourhoods and our city centre, and making sure they are clean, welcoming and worthy of the people who live, work, visit and do business here.”
He added that the removal of plastic waste bags from 110 northside streets is “another important step in cleaning up Dublin” and said the success of Phase 1 shows that this approach works.

Dublin City Council has again engaged with private waste collection operators serving the Phase 2 area, with operators revising their services to offer similar waste collection options to customers. These include encouraging the use of wheelie bins or euro bins where feasible, direct business-to-business collection services, and use of the on-street compactor units at Loftus Lane and Marlborough Place.
The programme forms part of Dublin City Council’s wider strategy to improve waste management across the city through operational enhancements, increased enforcement and awareness initiatives.
With further phases expected across Dublin’s designated bagged streets, LSM is delighted to continue working with Dublin City Council, Panda Ireland and Key Green to support a cleaner, more sustainable capital.
